Another year another trip to Susquehanna. We’ve been going to the Duncannon, PA for 6 years now and it’s never the same. This river changes daily. One day it’s fish galore the next you’re counting rocks. Fish on this river are very temperamental, it seams as if i’m talking about trout fishing. Water on this river is way too warm for trout to reside. The Susquehanna River is one of the major rivers in the United States and runs through Capitol of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg. This river is 464 miles long and some places reaches little over half mile wide. It is the longest river on the Eastern United States. Susquehanna River flows through State of New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania into the Chesapeake Bay. River begins at the base of the Otsego lake in New York State. This river is known for its best smallmouth fishing in the country. Most of the river is shallow ranging between 3- 6 feet in depth on average. To fish this river one must float for miles to cover maximum ground. Fly fishing is incurred with heavier rods such as 8 wt and up to 9. Bass line by Rio worked best for casting into the wind and casting heavier wighted flies.
Renting the Canoe and Camping:
Riverfront Campground is Located 9 Newport Rd, Duncannon PA 17020. (717) 834 – 5252 and has a shuttle service with the canoes and or John boat rentals. You can also stay overnight by camping in the tent by the campfire. Amenities are not very well kept up and i would recommend staying at the local hotel instead. Riverfront Campground is the only shuttle in the area to take you up the river. Great service! Recommend going 8 miles up the river and float back to the campsite.
